Autobiographical Sketch - Mr. Sujan Keshavrao Rane Mr. Sujan Keshavrao Rane was born in Bombay on January 1936. His father Mr. Keshavrao Pandurang Rane was a professional portrait-painter and a Fellow of the J. J. School of Arts, Bombay. Among his several public works, he had the privilege to paint portraits of many Maharajas during the British rule in India. He was also engaged by Raja Dhanraj Girjee of Hyderabad to paint some paintings for his palace there. Similarly he had the distinction of painting a mural for the central hall of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi ( then known as Viceregal Lodge ), because it used to be the official residence of the Viceroy of India during the British rule. While his mother Bhanumati Rane ( formerly Bhanumati Ajinya)hailed from a family of Sardars in the service of the Peshwas, one of them was known as Sardar Vyankojee. The Peshwas had granted to her ancestors a large Jahageer at Uttan, near Vasai on the outskirts of Bombay. This Jahageer still exists and there is an old house in the name of Keshavsmruti, understandably housing old historical remnants like swords etc. Currently an educational institution stands on this property.

After getting through his school final with a higher First Class, Mr. Sujan Rane studied for his B.A. In Economics and M.A. in English of Bombay University , while working for The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking corporation and Mercantile Bank Ltd., Bombay from October 1955 to March 1977. In 1968 he married Neelima Rane from the welknown Dadajee Dhakjee an old family of Bombay. Neelima worked for Reserve Bank of India and ended up as Receptionist to the Governor of the Reserve Bank Mr. Jagannathan. Neelima has also acted in several Marathi T.V.serials and some Marathi Films. For further advancement in his career, Mr.Rane quit his jobs in Bombay and proceeded with his family to Sultanate of Oman, Middle East in April 1977 and joined a local affiliate of the French International Bank Societe Generale. In fact he and his former colleague Mr. Sumant Poudwal were appointed to set up this local Bank which turned out to be a profitable and leading Bank in the Sultanate of Oman in course of time. Returning to India 1986, he worked in senior managerial positions from 1987 to 1991 for several corporate houses in Bombay such as Dhrangadhra Chemical Works Ltd., Divya Chemical Industries Ltd. and Consultant to Manubhai Mankelal, the bear king of the Bombay Stock Exchange. Once again he left India in 1992 for a senior position in ABN-AMRO Bank, Saudi Arabia ( known as Saudi Hollandi Bank ). After working for this Bank as Vice-President from 1992 to 1994 he joined as a Lecturer The Institute of Public Administration, Dammam, Saudi Arabia, a government college for adults, teaching subjects like Economics, Management Accountancy and Banking Operations, where he worked from 1995 to 1996.

Mr. Rane has two daughters Monica and Janhavi. Monica is a gold-medalist standing First Class First in both B.Comm. and M.Comm. of Bombay University. She was a Lecturer at The Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics, Bombay, before proceeding to U.S.A. for her M.B.A. at Santa Clara University, California. While Janhavi has obtained her degree in Dentistry from New York University with distinction. Both of them are well settled and married to capable young men in their respective professions in U.S.A. Mr.Rane left India for good in 1997 and has been following his pursuits like Hindustani Classical Music and Painting on a professional basis. He has achieved a good measure of success in Hindustani Classical Music in the form of recognition from established institutions like ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Calcutta, Indian Institute of World Culture, Bangalore, Goa Kala Academy, Panjim etc. He has held exhibitions of his paintings at Nehru Art Gallery, Worli, Bombay in 2000 and Shanmukhanand Hall, Sion, Bombay in 2001. He has also held exhibitions of his paintings at Marathi Convention, Calgary, Canada in 2001. Likewise, he has been commissioned to paint portraits of private and public figures over the years, to name a few, Senator Peter Inverso of the Republican Party of U.S.A., Sultan Qaboos of Oman and Swami Chinmayanand for Chinmaya Mission, Plainsboro, New Jersey, U.S.A.
